Music has always moved me (mentally, physically, spiritually).  I picked up my first electric bass at 13 years old, studied and performed all the way through college (minoring in music/ bass performance at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO), played in various bands and have drawn inspiration from countless performances over the years   Throughout my life as a bassist, no role was more satisfying than as founding member of an audacious band from Albany, NY known as Formula 5. The F5 days were unbelievably vivid, invigorating and just plain fun and the experience opened me up to indescribable enjoyment. We toured the Northeast, packing ourselves (and 2,000 lbs. of gear) into a sweaty van for days on end; barely breaking even and loving every minute.  We were relentless and I couldn't ask for a better team to take on so many chances, experimenting and expanding our sound at every opportunity.  We sought the exhilaration that only comes from bold, improvisational rock and we'd gotten pretty fearless in our exploration and songwriting.

I tapped out of F5 many years ago to go all-in on family (2 beautiful children, a beautiful wife and a career w/ NYS).  With their unwavering love and support, I found the strength to record some of the personal material I've been sitting on for many years.  It started with passively dusting off and reshaping those older demos. Slowly lyrics, harmonies and new structures emerged. I eventually gained momentum to write, arrange and record all instruments on some decent demos. I was confident I had more than enough material for an album but knew I couldn't finish one alone.  I contacted a super-talented friend of mine (Bryan Brundige), who has gone on to do amazing things in the world of sound production and live music since I last saw him. Bryan helped me light these songs up sonically and helped increase my recording/ editing IQ. He then suggested a highly polished/ accomplished drummer to join the cause (Kyle Harris), who was kind enough to record all album tracks (in a single day!) at The Record Co. in Boston, MA. I then called on the man/ the myth Joe Davis (from Formula 5, Neon Avenue) to shred a few guitar solos and add accompaniment to a few tracks. Don’t need to say much about that guy, dude’s pure magic with tone and taste.

The overall process was new and intense for me: remote digital workspace sessions, digging deeper into Logic production than I ever had before, tracking/ re-tracking sections hundreds of times over and developing more patience to stay in the creative "zone" while working out the tech side of things.  So much time spent editing, ensuring proper levels and connections, reevaluating structures, bouncing/ uploading stems for Bryan to work on (then waiting for that work to come back to me for more work), repeat, repeat, repeat. I will never take for granted again how solid albums are made.  It takes grind and focus to get a vision on record, especially with a hefty "real-life" to tend to. And of course you never feel “done”; there’s always things you obsess about doing differently, but I’m extremely satisfied with where things landed. I've still got a long way to proficiency on multiple fronts, but this was a thoroughly enjoyable trial-by-fire.

9 months after calling my shot to finish an album (...in 6 months...), it's finally here!

I'll admit, I've gone back and forth on whether to release this thing, but decided to go all in. I love the material and the process...just gotta work on the thick skin part.  Everything's subjective, which is the great thing about art; it hits everyone differently. I don't expect (or want) everyone to dig my version of it.  If you do enjoy, there's more to come.  But regardless of the reception,  just happy to be making my little ditties again. I've learned a lot through this process (technically and emotionally) and I simply can't wait to apply those lessons to Album #2 (and hopefully 3, 4, and 5). Working on putting a band together to support this and other material, as well as play some dream covers.  But one...step...at a time. Looking forward to the journey ahead.

Wishing y’all positivity and prosperity always.

Bill
